SeeMy: Learning Japanese…

Posted by patrickhew on April 19, 2007

Gosh, it’s been a while since I last wrote anything… I missed writing in my blog… seems like everything is exactly the way I left it…. cept that there’s probably cobwebs everywhere and a fine layer of ‘dust’ has settled on most of my postings.

Back to my main post for today… I dunno why I feel this way but, part of me seem to be so attached to things Japanese; be it their language, culture, food, anime and even chicks!! Heck, I’m so pumped up about it that I’ve been trying to learn it from online sites but to no avail… coz it’s not the same as interacting with a real person. I must have the physical touch. So, anyone out there around KL area who knows japanese? :D

Well, maybe I should just temporarily relocate to Japan to learn more about the culture and the language. Who knows, I might actually like it there enough to stay put? hehe…

A Valentine to remember…

Posted by patrickhew on February 15, 2007

It was 6.17pm on a rain-soaked evening… I told myself, “Uh-oh, I’ve got to go now…” That’s the last thing that caught my eye on my computer screen before I logged off and called it a day. Rushing to pack my belongings, I hurried myself out of the office and headed for my car parked in the basement of the building. Another quick glance at my watch shows that 7 minutes has passed by since I left my workplace. “Oh heavens, the roads are filled with like-minded people now… can I still make it? Well, there’s no choice, I HAVE TO MAKE IT!”, I muttered to myself as I negotiate a bend leading towards the main roads jammed with cars.

The stream of cars that seemed to have no end and movement of traffic at a snails pace did not help either. Time was ticking by fairly quickly and so was my temper! I could hear the blaring sound of car honks and occassional motorcycles zooming pass by and my mind wanders far into the nothingness where all I could think of was how I’ve spent my past years Valentine’s Day celebration… the happy moments that I’ve enjoyed and experienced never fails to put a smile on my face. While enjoying these sweet memories, I became oblivious to time and everything around me… Nothing seemed to have mattered anymore; There were NO traffic jams, NO worries, NO hassle.

As I snapped out of my ‘mini’ daze, I glanced at the digital clock on the my car dashboard and the time shows 7.13pm… The surrounding looks quite different now with the brightly lit street lamps all along the street, buildings with their bright lights lit up the now twilight sky… and the snail paced movement at which I was cursing and swearing at about earlier seems to have eased quite a bit as I enter the last leg of my journey. I was now only a few minutes away from home and that’s when I realised that my ordeal through ‘hell’ traffic was finally coming to an end. The next 10 minutes of driving was one at leisure with my mind now not as tensed as when I first started out on my journey. A few more bends through some housing estate and I was finally home…

As I stepped out of my car and walked towards the doorsteps of my house, a sense of enlightenment and appreciation dawned upon me… The reflection I had earlier on let me realise that the true meaning of the celebration of valentine’s day is about sharing love with your loved ones… be it your partner in life or your family. The thought of love is not as what’s shown in commercials over radio nor is it about gifts of chocolate and flowers. It’s about a togetherness that we knit with our loved ones that’s called a relationship!

To my Parents, brother and sisters, all I wanna say is “I Love you All!”… This truly was a Valentine to remember…

Idiotic ‘Millionaire’ Contestant Makes Worst Use Of Lifelines Ever

Posted by patrickhew on February 10, 2007

Got this from a forwarded email recently… it’s quite funny actually! Read on:

idiotic
Kathy Evans, the single dumbest contestant to ever get on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”NEW YORK - Idaho resident Kathy Evans brought humiliation to her friends and family Tuesday when she set a new standard for stupidity with her appearance on the popular TV show, “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”It seems that Evans, a 32-year-old wife and mother of two, got stuck on the first question, and proceeded to make what fans of the show are dubbing “the absolute worst use of lifelines ever.”

After being introduced to the show’s host Meredith Vieira, Evans assured her that she was ready to play, whereupon she was posed with an extremely easy $100 question. The question was:

“Which of the following is the largest?”
A) A Peanut
B) An Elephant
C) The Moon
D) Hey, who you calling large?

Immediately Mrs. Evans was struck with an all consuming panic as she realized that this was a question to which she did not readily know the answer.

“Hmm, oh boy, that’s a toughie,” said Evans, as Vieira did her level best to hide her disbelief and disgust. “I mean, I’m sure I’ve heard of some of these things before, but I have no idea how large they would be.”

Evans made the decision to use the first of her three lifelines, the 50/50. Answers A and D were removed, leaving her to decide which was bigger, an elephant or the moon. However, faced with an incredibly easy question, Evans still remained unsure.

“Oh! It removed the two I was leaning towards!” exclaimed Evans. “Darn. I think I better phone a friend.”

Using the second of her two lifelines on the first question, Mrs. Evans asked to be connected with her friend Betsy, who is an office assistant.

“Hi Betsy! How are you? This is Kathy! I’m on TV!” said Evans, wasting the first seven seconds of her call. “Ok, I got an important question. Which of the following is the largest? B, an elephant, or C, the moon. 15 seconds hun.”

Betsy quickly replied that the answer was C, the moon. Evans proceeded to argue with her friend for the remaining ten seconds.

“Come on Betsy, are you sure?” said Evans. “How sure are you? Puh, that can’t be it.”

To everyone’s astonishment, the moronic Evans declined to take her friend’s advice and pick ‘The Moon.’

“I just don’t know if I can trust Betsy. She’s not all that bright. So I think I’d like to ask the audience,” said Evans.

Asked to vote on the correct answer, the audience returned 98% in favor of answer C, ‘The Moon.’ Having used up all her lifelines, Evans then made the dumbest choice of her life.

“Wow, seems like everybody is against what I’m thinking,” said the too-stupid-to-live Evans. “But you know, sometimes you just got to go with your gut. So, let’s see. For which is larger, an elephant or the moon, I’m going to have to go with B, an elephant. Final answer.”
Evans sat before the dumbfounded audience, the only one waiting with bated breath, and was told that she was wrong, and that the answer was in fact, C, ‘The Moon.”
